Kanhangad-Kasaragod:
Kanhangad is the part of Kasaragod district, the northern most portion of Kerala. Having borders with Karnataka the land is home to distinctive culture with a smooth bend of Kerala and Karnataka traditions, culture and language. A cosmoplitin culture has developed here from ancient times due to the connections with people from other countries for trade and commerce. Bekal Fort: It is the major tourist destination and architectural marvel of the 18th century. It ia located 14 km from Kanhangad and 11 km from Kasaragod town. The nearest railway station is Bekal Fort railway station and the nearest airport is Mangalore airport. Built close to the sea shore it is an Ideal destination to have the joy of trecking, picknick, photography and watching sun set.
Chandragiri Fort: It is another destination for lobers of historical monument and trecking. Located in the idelic surroundigs of the banks of river Chandragiri it is one of the unexploded destinations. One can enoy the enchating scene of greenary, backwater and the estuary from the top of this fort.
Ananthapura Lake Temple: The only lake temple in Kerala and one among the most ancient temples in the region. The temple walls have murals akin to those in the famous Ajanta and Ellora caves.
Nature’s Bounty: Kasaragod district is very rich in vegetation with shola, evergreen and mangrove forests. Here once can experience the natural beauty at its zenith.
Ranipuram shola NP/ wildlife sanctuary(proposed)
The proposed Ranipuram Wildlife sanctuary / National park consists of various flora and fauna which are endemic to the Western Ghats, biodiversity hotspot. Elephants, leopards, deer, wild dogs, wild boars, macaques, jungle cats, Leopard cats slender loris, porcupines, malabar giant squirrels, malabar civet cat, many species of birds, rare butterflies and medicinal plants are found in these forests.
Malom wildlife sanctaury: Malom reserve forest of Kanhangad range consists of Tropical rainforest and many wild animals like as rhesus monkey, wild pig, flying squirrels, slender loris, porcupine, and birds like peacock, Malabar hornbill and grey horn bill are seen. Snakes like cobras, python and king cobras reported. It is 28 km away east of Kanhangad in Balal-Kallar panchayath.
Adoor wildlife sanctuary: Adoor reserve forest which spreads about 2 km is the home for endangered animals like jungle cat, slender loris, wild pig, porcupine, turtles, peacock, Malabar horn bill, butterflies, medicinal plants and wet evergreen forest. It is about 35 km east of Kasaragod town in Adoor-Kuttikol village.
Parappa wildlife sanctuary: Parappa reserve forest of Kanhangad range are home for jungle cats, slender loris, wild pig, porcupine, turtles, peacock, Malabar horn bill, butterflies, medicinal plants and wet evergreen forest. It is about 22 km East of Chervathur town
Kammadam sacred grove wildlife sanctuary: Kammadam kavu, related with Bhagavathi temple, is the biggest sacred grove of Kerala and rich in wildlife, evergreen forest, orchids, medicinal plants and shrubs. Wild animals like Jungle cat, monitor lizard, civets, fox, bats, snakes, various species of birds and butterflies seen. It is 25 km east of Kanhangad town.
Kareem's Forest park: India's first private sanctuary and rich in diverse species of trees, medicinal plants, birds, insets, reptiles, amphibians, small wild animals, microorganisms and so on. People from different walks of life environmentalists, scientists, University and Ayurveda students, and laymen, all over the country visit his forest park for practical experience and study purpose. The park is situated at Puliyamkulam, near Parappa. It is 23 km away east of Kanhangad town. Frequent bus service available.
Nileshwar: is a small town with high cultural standards. The town is named after the ancient Neelakantheshwara Temple also known as the Tali Shiva Temple. The town is famous for its folk arts, temple festivals, palace, sacred grooves(kavuus), old markets, and its weaver street. Famous festivals in Nileshwar are Pooram and Kalasam in Mannampurathukavu, and the festival in Thaliyil temple. The Theyyam festival, which is performed in several kavus, tharavads, and other sacred buildings attract large numbers of foreigners. Besides, there are hundreds of shrines and temples dedicated to different gods and goddessess. With rich histiorical and cultural backgrounds these places of worship have kept some of the most ancinet traditions of the world alive.
